Leeton Shire Council is pleased to share a project update on the Chelmsford Place Town Square upgrade, highlighting solid progress achieved in both Stage 1 and Stage 2.

Recent progress included:

  • Electrical infrastructure installed to 75% of site;
  • All hydraulics for the water features installed;
  • Concrete rill and pavers installed along with centre footpaths in Stage 1;
  • Raised crossing on Sycamore St/Chelmsford Pl completed
    (reopening of crossing to traffic scheduled for late March);
  • Kerb installed in Stage 1 and half of Stage 2.

Manager Open Space & Recreation, Josh Clyne, said there’s a lot for the community to look forward to as the project advances into the next phase.

“Looking ahead, Stage 1 will see some significant visible changes with tree plantings and turf laying expected to take place in the next few weeks. In addition, Stage 2 will see further concrete being poured. We are also expecting heritage sculptor Carl Valerius back on site, once the weather cools down a bit, to continue his work on the heritage bandstand restoration. Further, construction on Stage 3, in front of the water towers, is set to commence soon.”

Cr George Weston, Portfolio lead for CBD Enhancement, acknowledged both the State and Federal Government.

"The Chelmsford Place Town Square upgrade has been made possible thanks to the support of our funders, including the NSW Open Spaces Legacy Fund, the Commonwealth's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Fund and Stronger Country Communities Fund Round 3.”

“It’s been great to follow the transformation of the town square and we are now reaching a stage in the construction program where the community is able to see and appreciate the overall vision of the project,” he said.

The Chelmsford Place Town Square upgrade is Stage 3 of the CBD Enhancement Strategy with practical completion expected in mid-2024. For the latest updates and further information on the project's developments, please visit the Leeton Shire Council website.
