As a Councillor, it has been incredibly rewarding to witness several key projects come to life, including the completion of Roxy Stage 1, Vance Estate Stage 3, a new and modern pound for companion animals, and the revitalisation of our Chelmsford Town Square.

Chelmsford Place is now the heart that unites our community, finally bringing to life Burley Griffin’s vision for a central town square. It seamlessly connects Leeton’s iconic art deco landmarks – the Roxy Theatre, the Hydro, and the Leeton Museum and Art Gallery (LMAG) – creating a welcoming, accessible public space for everyone to enjoy.

It has been wonderful to see the community embrace Chelmsford Town Square, whether it’s families enjoying some downtime, the vibrancy of Fiesta La Leeton, or those reflecting on the sacrifice and service of our servicemen and women through the evocative projection art on the water towers for ANZAC Day.

I was deeply honoured to stand in for the Mayor at the ANZAC Day services across the Shire. Each year, it’s heartening to see growing numbers not just in Leeton but also in Yanco and Whitton. Congratulations to the RSL sub-branch and the many volunteers who made these services such a respectful commemoration of those who have given so much for us all.

It was also a privilege to accompany Mr Peter Kenyon to public meetings in Yanco and Whitton. The enthusiasm among residents to rejuvenate and breathe new life into their communities was palpable. Council is committed to supporting them on this exciting journey.

It’s Council budget and programming time again. We are dedicated to providing the best services and facilities possible, even in challenging times. Your feedback is invaluable to us. You can have your say by visiting the Council website and sharing your thoughts on our DRAFT Integrated Planning and Reporting suite of documents, including the 25-29 DRAFT Delivery Program. These documents outline what you've asked us to do as a Council and how we plan to deliver those services and facilities over the next four years. This is your opportunity to help shape the future of Leeton Shire.

A few other important updates:

  • Applications are currently open for the caretaker position at Gogeldrie Riverside Park until 23 May. For more information and to apply please contact Manager Business Services Brent Lawrence on (02) 6953 0911 or via email to council@leeton.nsw.gov.au.
  • The Leeton Local Health Survey is still open for another week. Please take a few minutes to complete this important survey so we can effectively plan for the health services you need.

Leeton is a wonderful place to live and work, with a bright future ahead – thanks to the incredible contributions of our community members. Your participation and volunteer efforts are what make our community strong. Thank you for all that you do.

Warm regards,
Cr Michael Kidd
