With this being the first Mayoral Column since the elections, it is both a delight and honour to write to you as Mayor.

The new term of Council has had a very busy two months settling in, with many training and information sessions held to bring all new councillors (and existing ones) up to speed. Planning in earnest for our four-year Council Delivery Program starts in late January. We will commence by having a thorough review of the updated Community Strategic Plan (CSP) and thank all residents who have participated in consultation sessions to date. Residents will have one more opportunity to Have Their Say about the draft CSP when the draft is released later in December for review over the month of January.

Firstly, I am thrilled to announce the launch of the Roxy Community Theatre 'Community First' program this week. Kurrajong will be the first group to take to the stage tomorrow with their performance of 'Grease' (Tuesday, 3 December 2024) as they test the capabilities, facilities and technical equipment of the redeveloped Roxy ahead of its big opening in March next year. We are very appreciative of the local groups who are helping with this vital commissioning phase as we attempt to iron out any bumps in the new systems / technology. Tickets can be purchased here.

Additionally, nominations for the 2025 Australia Day Awards are still being accepted. This is a wonderful opportunity to recognise the outstanding individuals and groups within our community. If you know someone who deserves to be celebrated, please submit your nominations by 8 January.

As we approach the festive season, I remind residents of the changed operating hours of Council facilities due to the Christmas/New Year break. Our main office, depot and VIC will be closed from Friday, 20 December 2024 to Monday, 6 January 2025. The pools will be open except for Christmas Day and LMAG will be open except for Christmas Day and Boxing Day. A full breakdown of the Christmas operating hours and closures can be found here. We appreciate your understanding as our staff take a well earned break. For any emergencies, please continue to ring the usual Council phone number 6953 0911.

I’m very much looking forward to Light Up Leeton this Sunday, 8 December 2024. It's the perfect occasion to come together and celebrate the festive spirit with family and friends. Don't forget to register for the Light Up Leeton competition to be in the running for some exciting prizes.

Lastly, I would like to extend my warmest wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May this festive season bring joy, peace, and prosperity to you and your loved ones.

Stay connected and involved!

Regards,
Mayor Cr George Weston
