Leeton Showground Grandstand Officially Opened

The new Leeton Showground Grandstand was officially opened today.

Council’s Mayor Paul Maytom said he was delighted to open the facility together with the Member for Farrer, New South Wales, The Hon. Sussan Ley, MP.

Joining them to help mark the special event was Member for Murray, Helen Dalton, representatives from Council,  Leeton Show Society, Showground Land Managerees (formally known as the Leeton Showground Trust) and Crown Lands, as well as sporting groups, businesses and other community members.

“I’m exceptionally pleased to see this project come to fruition and to open the new Showground Grandstand today,” said Council’s Mayor, Paul Maytom.

“This outstanding facility is both functional and stylish in its design and will no doubt be greatly used and enjoyed by the community and user groups,” said Mayor Maytom.

Features include a 203 seated spectator grandstand, male and female team change rooms with full amenities and two referee change rooms with full amenities.

The first floor has a well-appointed function space with a disability access lift while the ground floor features a full canteen kitchen including cool room and full commercial kitchen facilities.

The $1.996M Project, delivered by Leeton Shire Council, has been co-funded by the NSW Government through the Stronger Country Communities Fund ($800,000), Australian Government ($496,000), NSW Crown Lands ($400,000), Australian Football League ($100,000) and Leeton Shire Council Loan Funds ($200,000).

“It is wonderful to have had such a substantial investment by these groups to make this project possible,” said Mayor Maytom.

“Council extends our gratitude to all parties for their funding contribution and collaboration towards this much-needed project.

“I'd also like to acknowledge the efforts of Council staff who have worked hard to coordinate the funding and deliver the project,” he said.

Local businesses were also thanked by Mayor Maytom for their involvement in delivering the first-class facility including architect Steve Murray, head building contractor Bill Arnold, and many other businesses.
