Leeton Development Control Plan Endorsed

Published on 01 November 2022

Council, at its October 2022 Ordinary Council meeting, endorsed Leeton Shire’s first Development Control Plan (DCP).

The DCP applies to the whole of the Leeton Shire and will guide development that is permissible under the Leeton Local Environmental Plan 2014.

Council’s Manager Planning, Building and Health, Francois Van Der Berg, said the DCP will be used by Council as a planning tool to assist with the assessment of Development Applications lodged with Council and to ensure growth and development occurs in a consistent, orderly, and environmentally sensitive manner.

“The DCP also allows everyone to better understand the requirements and standards that Council will apply in determining Development Applications,” said Francois Van Der Berg.

“Community and developer feedback was  gathered during the past year via the Issues paper and DRAFT DCP and I would like to thank all who have provided feedback.

Five (5) submissions were received in the final round of feedback in July and August 2022.

As a result, 12 minor amendments were made to the DCP mainly in relation to setbacks, and clarification of types of buildings and depth of excavations near property boundaries.

Deputy Mayor, Cr Michael Kidd, thanked staff and community for their contribution to formulating Leeton’s DCP.

“We welcome better clarity and certainty for our developers and builders, while at the same time ensuring standards are met for making neighbourhoods safe and liveable,” said Cr Kidd.

The DCP can be viewed on Council’s website  www.leeton.nsw.gov.au.
