Council is calling on all residents to take part in an important community survey designed to gather feedback on the condition and service expectations for road and transport infrastructure across the Shire. The survey covers critical assets such as sealed and unsealed roads, bridges, footpaths, stormwater drainage systems, and kerb and guttering.

This survey is a vital part of Council’s commitment to ensuring infrastructure management aligns with local needs and priorities. Residents will have the opportunity to share their views on how these assets are currently performing, and what levels of service they expect in the future.

Leeton Shire Council’s Executive Manager Utilities, Environment and Emergency Services, Luke Tedesco, said community input is essential for shaping sustainable, responsive services.

“We want to make sure our infrastructure reflects the expectations of the people who use it every day. This survey is a meaningful opportunity for the community to guide how we invest in and maintain our local roads, drainage, and other essential services over the long term,” Mr Tedesco said.

There will be an online survey. To promote broad participation, Council will also host a series of community drop-in sessions where residents can ask questions, learn more about the survey, and complete it with the assistance of Council staff. These sessions will be held at:

  • Leeton – Wednesday 29 October 7.30am at Jarrah Mall
  • Whitton – Wednesday 29 October 10am at Whitton Post Office
  • Yanco – Wednesday 29 October 1pm at Yanco Shop
  • Leeton – Wednesday 5 November 5pm at Leeton Plaza

Hard copies of the survey will also be available at these locations for those who prefer to respond offline.

The insights gathered will support several key objectives:

  • Meet Integrated Planning and Reporting (IP&R) Requirements
  • Support Evidence-Based Decision Making
  • Develop Agreed Community Service Levels
  • Understand Community Values
  • Inform Long-Term Financial Sustainability

This engagement opportunity is the first in a broader series of community surveys focusing on Council-managed assets. Future consultations will target areas such as water and sewer services, playgrounds, and more.

Mayor Cr George Weston encourages all community members to take this opportunity to have their say.

“Council wants to prioritise its investment in roads and transport assets in a way that meets community expectations. We have traditionally sought to keep sealed and gravelled roads that we manage in a satisfactory condition. Please take the time to share your views on what is acceptable and what is not.”

The survey closes on Friday, 7 November 2025.
