Council is conducting a free microchipping day for dogs and cats at the Parkview Tennis Clubhouse on Wednesday 5 October 2022.

Council’s free microchipping day is being held to encourage responsible pet ownership.

“If your pet cat or dog becomes lost, you are far more likely to be reunited if they are microchipped,” said Council’s Manager Planning, Building and Health Francois Van Der Berg.

“Should your pet wander or become lost, Council, vets and animal shelters can scan your pet for a microchip and contact you via the Companion Animal Registry database.”

Council takes this opportunity to remind residents it’s very important to keep your contact details up to date, which can be done through the Pet Registry website at www.petregistry.nsw.gov.au, so that if you move to a new house or change your phone number you will still be contactable in the event of your pet becoming lost.

If a pet is transferred to a new owner, the old owner must ensure they complete the correct transfer form online to change the animal contact details to the new owner or pop into council and fill in the change of owner form.

Dog and cat owners need to arrange an appointment time for the microchipping day and complete the relevant form/s at the Leeton Shire Council office located at 23–25 Chelmsford Place prior to 30 September 2022.

Please note all dogs need to be on a leash. No aggressive dogs will be accepted. All cats must be in a carry cage.

For further enquiries please contact Council on 6953 0911.
