Council is inviting the community to provide comments on the DRAFT Economic Development, Tourism, and Events Strategic Plan, “Ambition 2030” that is on public exhibition until 5pm on Friday 30 September 2022.

Council’s Economic and Community Development Manager Mrs Michelle Evans said Ambition 2030 provides a framework for economic growth.

“The Plan aims to identify opportunities and potential projects that will support continued economic growth, foster local employment opportunities and position Leeton as a leader in innovation,” said Mrs Evans.

“Engagement with a wide range of stakeholders has been sought to provide detailed feedback in relation to some of the key drivers and challenges for Leeton contained in the Plan.

“I would like to thank all stakeholders who have played a large role in providing feedback so far,” she said.

Key drivers identified in the draft plan include population growth and industry retention and attraction, agri food production and manufacturing, irrigated agriculture, education and a skilled workforce.

Future challenges centre around skilled workers to assist in driving business growth, housing to meet a growing workforce, diversification of industry, educational qualifications, and connectivity in heavy vehicle and rail networks.

The plan is divided into six core focus areas which Council staff will work towards over the next six years in partnership with stakeholders.

These areas are Business Retention and Attraction, Infrastructure to Support the Economy, Workforce Economy, Environmentally Sustainable Economy, Liveability, and Tourism and Visitor Economy.

Cr Krystal Maytom, Council’s Portfolio Lead for Business, said Council alone will not be able to achieve growth in these key areas with community leaders, State and Federal agencies all playing an important role in driving the Leeton Shire economy forward and tackling challenges head on.

“I look forward to achieving further Shire growth through collaboration, innovation and the strength and resilience of the local community,” Cr Maytom said.
