Leeton Shire Council is holding a free ‘Older Drivers and Mobility’ workshop on Wednesday 10 April 2024 at 1.00pm in the Leeton Shire Library. Attendees will be able to see a presentation regarding road safety, road rules and safe scooter use.

Road Safety Officer Steph Puntoriero says, “In order to maintain independence and mobility, more of our older residents are purchasing scooters, or special mobility vehicles. However, many people are making purchases without informed decisions or understanding the responsibilities they have in operating a vehicle like this on our roads and footpaths.”

“At the workshop we will run through the issues of older drivers and when they may need to look at these vehicles as an alternative to staying mobile.

“With regards to road safety, there are already many users on our local roads and footpaths who are not using their vehicles correctly. There are rules that users need to abide by for their own safety and the safety of others. Many users do not understand how important it is to be visible to traffic when approaching intersections or if using a road. If you have a flag – please use it. If you don’t – then come along to the workshop and get one. Be safe, be seen.”
