Road Safety Education

Leeton Shire Council is committed to road safety.

Recently, with funding from Transport for NSW, Council has organised a variety of road safety activities, including 'What is Your Plan B' campaign, a Child Restraint Workshop, 'Slow Down Around Town' campaign, Driver/Mobility Scooter Workshop and a drink driving campaign. 

Council also provides annual support for the Rotary Youth Driver Awareness Day, and recently coordinated a 'On the Road 65+' Workshop.

Active Transport Plan - 2022 Leeton Shire

About the project

Leeton Shire Council is developing an Active Transport Plan which aims to investigate the requirements for improving the network of facilities in Leeton Shire that provide for and encourage walking and cycling activities. 

How to get involved?

Interested persons are encouraged to attend one of the various consultation workshops (see above) or to complete a short survey on the key issues affecting walking and cycling in our community.

Members of the community are invited to contribute to the Plan by providing their ideas for enhancing walking, running and riding opportunities in the Leeton Shire.

Ideas can be submitted via an Online Survey

Written submissions can be emailed to council@leeton.nsw.gov.au or dropped into the Council Administration Building at 23–25 Chelmsford Place. 

 

Active Transport Plan - Information

 

Road Safety Officer

Council has a Road Safety Officer (RSO) who is responsible for promoting road safety awareness and contributing to improved road safety outcomes by developing and delivering behavioural education programs and influencing the construction of infrastructure to improve road user safety.

The RSO, NSW Police, Transport for NSW and Council implement initiatives and workshops to improve road safety at a local level by promoting greater involvement and coordination with all road safety stakeholders.

Rotary Youth Driver Awareness (RYDA)

Council provides annual support for the RYDA program.

Local Traffic Committee

If you have an issue you would like to raise with Council you can:

Once any issues have been investigated and where changes or new works are recommended, matters are referred to the Leeton Local Traffic Committee for endorsement. The Local Traffic Committee is primarily a technical review and advisory committee.  The committee meets every three months and considers the technical merits of proposals ensuring that current technical guidelines are considered and provides recommendations to Council for decision.
