Have Your Say on Draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan

Leeton Shire Council is inviting residents to have their say on the DRAFT Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) 2026–2030, following its endorsement for public exhibition at the April Ordinary Council Meeting.
The draft plan outlines how Council will continue to improve access, inclusion and participation for people with disability across the Shire over the next four years, in line with requirements under the Disability Inclusion Act 2014.
The Leeton Shire community is encouraged to review the draft and provide feedback.
Council’s Portfolio Lead for Diversity and Inclusion, Cr Nicholas Wright, said the draft plan had been shaped by strong community input and this next stage was about making sure it reflects local needs.
“We’ve heard from a wide cross-section of our community, including people with disability, carers, educators and service providers,” Cr Wright said.
“This public exhibition period is an important opportunity to check in with the community and make sure we’ve captured those experiences accurately and set the right priorities moving forward.”
The DRAFT DIAP has been informed by extensive consultation, including online engagement and targeted in-person sessions with local organisations such as Gralee School, Kurrajong Leeton, My Plan Connect and Griffith Post School Options.
More than 100 people participated in face-to-face sessions, while online engagement identified key barriers and opportunities across the Shire. This feedback has directly shaped the actions and focus areas of the draft plan.
Cr Wright said the plan reflects Council’s commitment to building an inclusive and accessible community.
“In 2021, more than 700 people in our Shire reported needing assistance in their daily lives, and that number is growing,” he said. “It’s essential that our planning, services and infrastructure continue to evolve to support everyone in our community to participate fully.”
The Draft documents are available on Council’s website and via the ‘Have Your Say’ portal, with hard copies also accessible at the Council Administration Office, Leeton Shire Library, Yanco Shop, and Whitton and Murrami Post Offices.
Community members can provide feedback online, by email, or in writing, with submissions closing at 5pm on Thursday, 28 May 2026.
