It is important that dog and cat owners microchip and register their pets. Not only is it the law, but it allows us to return your pet to you should it ever become lost.
Dogs and cats must be microchipped by the time they are 12 weeks old. If you’re giving away or selling a pet, even if it’s under 12 weeks old, it is your responsibility to have them microchipped.
Once your dog or cat is microchipped, you will receive a Certificate of Identification, which you will need to register your pet.
Leeton Shire Council carries out subsidised microchipping all year round. Please refer to the Council's Revenue Policy and Fees Schedule (search 'microchip') for current costs.
Council holds free microchipping days throughout the year to encourage responsible pet ownership. The dates for 2026 are as follows:
All microchipping days are held at the Leeton Pound (16 Massey Ave, Leeton).
Dog and cat owners need to arrange an appointment time for the microchipping day and complete the relevant form/s(PDF, 147KB) at the Leeton Shire Council office located at 23–25 Chelmsford Place prior to the event.
