Leeton Swimming Pool Complex was constructed in the early 1960’s and is comprised of a toddler's pool, learner's pool, 50m eight lane Olympic pool and water slide. Kiosk and amenities have already been upgraded to a suitable standard. An upgrade to the front carpark in Palm Avenue has recently been completed.
There have been very limited works undertaken in relation to pool structures, surfacing, plant and filtration over the life of the pool. Council is currently undertaking a refurbishment which will include the items listed below.
Complete upgrade of plant room, associated plant and filtration system. The current system is gravity sand filters. Determination of existing plant room suitability will be required also with the possibility of renewal/expansion. Sanitation is currently via sodium hypochlorite.
Council is open to other means of sanitation incorporating the latest technology.
Disability access ramps and steps will be provided to all pools.
The 50m pool requires retiling, conversion to wet deck and will include two additional lanes which will alleviate congestion at the pool as a result of Council having to close the Yanco Pool as it had become unserviceable. The pool is currently an eight lane pool heated via a Heliocol solar heating system located on the adjacent Indoor Stadium roof. This system is to be retained.
The existing pool concourse lighting will require upgrading. The lighting is to illuminate the actual pools and surrounding concourse.
The pool concourse is the original concrete. It is in poor condition and has had minor patchwork undertaken but will require replacing with a suitable surface treatment
The current water slide is 30 years old and whilst in sound operational use it is deteriorating and several maintenance issues have arisen that would be expensive to repair. The redevelopment of the entire pool facility will be an opportune time to replace the slide with a modern tubular slide.
There is currently separate toddlers and middle size pools which will be combined into a water play park / learn to swim area.
In line with Council’s direction of reducing our energy consumption solar power generation will form part of the redevelopment to offset energy use in key areas of pumping and filtration. A 40kw system will be installed which will offset between 75%-85% of the daytime power consumption.
