Council is responsible for the management and maintenance of trees on the Shire's street roadsides and most on Council owned land. Good planning, species selection and appropriate maintenance are important for an appealing scenic quality, amenity and environment and for public safety.
Branches overhanging a footpath or intrusive roots can potentially cause an obstruction which can hinder mobility including safe and controlled pedestrian movement.
Please note that property owners are responsible for trees within their property boundary and should ensure overhanging branches are pruned back from the footpath to avoid injury.
If a neighbour’s tree is causing concern or damage to property or underground pipes, it's recommended that you discuss the problem with your neighbour first, as they may be unaware of the concern or damage the tree is causing. If you see overhanging branches from a Council owned tree, please report a concern or contact Council on (02) 6953 0911.
Trees play an important role in our environment. They provide habitat for wildlife and protect soil and water supplies.
Council has included in its Local Environmental Plan, provisions requiring the preservation of trees and bush land. Council makes every effort to retain and protect trees and will not approve the removal of a tree unless suitable evidence is provided.
