Council will be seeking community input from Whitton and Yanco residents into the development of Town Improvement Plans for Yanco and Whitton in 2018.
To kick start this process Council has engaged an expert facilitator in the area of “Placemaking” to run the consultation process.
Leeton Shire Council General Manager Jackie Kruger said that Placemaking is a people-centred approach to the planning, design and management of public spaces.
“Put simply, placemaking involves listening to, and asking questions of the people who live, work and play in a particular space in order to discover their needs and aspirations. This information is then used to create a common community vision.”
Mrs Kruger further added that the vision for communities such as Yanco and Whitton can evolve quickly into an implementation strategy or in Council’s case a “Town Improvement Plan”.
“The development of Town Improvement Plans requires long-term thinking. We can’t do everything at once, but these plans will give all parties a path to follow to build a brighter future.”
Mayor Paul Maytom welcomed the development of Town Improvement Plans for Whitton and Yanco.
“We are very fortunate to have many passionate and hardworking residents in Yanco and Whitton who want to see their towns reinvigorated and positioned to reach their true potential. Town Improvement Planning will help mobilise local leadership and together I’m sure we will achieve some good goals.”
Workshops for both communities will be held
during the first week of February 2018
with finer details to be confirmed and communicated to Yanco and Whitton
residents
early in the New Year.
Residents, young and old, will be invited to participate.
