At its March Ordinary Council Meeting, Leeton Shire Council authorised funding of $209,000 for Stage 1 (Phase A) Upgrade Works to the Water Conservation and Irrigation Commission (WC&IC) Building to come from Council’s Infrastructure Restriction (Reserve).
At it’s February Ordinary Council Meeting, Council authorised the transfer of the former Water Conservation & Irrigation Commission Building (27-33 Chelmsford Place, Leeton) from Property NSW ownership and into Leeton Shire Council ownership for the nominal sum of $1.
Director Corporate and Community Craig Bennett stated in his report to Council this phase of the refurbishment will focus on readying an area that the Leeton Family & Local History Society Inc can utilise for archive storage purposes and preparing a cultural exhibition space.
“The Sydney Living Museum “Underworld: Mugshots from the Roaring Twenties” exhibition is also coming to Leeton for three months as part of the 2019 Australian Art Deco Festival Leeton event which is why timing is of the essence.”
In the next few weeks Council will be calling for Expressions of Interest (EOI’s) to see what organisations in the community might be interested to hire rooms or space in the new facility.
