The Roxy Theatre Development Application (DA) for alterations and additions to the Roxy Community Theatre and Sharp’s building (Movie Café) was lodged with Council on
3 December 2020.
The DA is classified as regional development, pursuant to the provisions of the State
Environmental Planning Policy 2011 as the capital investment value of the project is more
than $5M and the project is Council-related.
“Council is delighted to reach this important milestone stage of
this
exciting project which aims to celebrate and highlight the building’s heritage whilst delivering a
21st century arts and cultural venue,” said Council’s General Manager, Mrs Jackie Kruger.
Council will not be the consent authority
for the DA, nor will Council staff undertake the
assessment.
“As this is a Council-owned project, Council management decided for probity reasons
to refer the DA to an independent assessor and to the Western Region Joint Regional
Planning Panel for determination,” said Mrs Kruger.
As the Roxy is State
Heritage listed, Heritage NSW will
also
be required to assess the
proposed development from a
heritage perspective and issue General Terms of Approval to be included in the development consent.
A public notification period commenced on Friday 11 December 2020 and will close on Monday 1 February 2021.
The full DA can be accessed via the link:
