Leeton Shire Council supported the closure of two sections of Leeton Shire public roads at its August Ordinary Council Meeting.
The first public road endorsed for closure was Naradhun Street, between Loughnan Street and Douglas Street, Whitton.
Council’s Contract Property Officer Donna O’Bryan stated in her report to Council that this particular section of Council road has been used for some time as a stockpile and mixing site for gravel for use on Council’s roads.
“The road does not routinely carry public traffic with only Council’s Water Filtration Plant and Australian Grain Storage facilities adjoining the proposed road closure area.”
“Council has considered various sites in the Whitton area and the preferred site for the construction of a waste transfer station is on the section of Naradhun road and road reserve adjacent to the Whitton Filtration Plant.”
“Nevertheless, as Council is currently using this site for its own use as a stockpile site it is proper practice to effect the closure of the public road.”
The second public road endorsed for closure by Council was Nightsoil Lane between Douglas and Loughnan Streets, Whitton.
Mrs O’Bryan stated in her report to Council that Council’s Whitton Water Filtration Plant is constructed over these lots and the Nightsoil Lane traverses the facility.
“It is in Council’s interest to close the lane and consolidate the lot with the surrounding land which comprises Council’s Water Filtration Plant.”
“Although the lane has never been used for its intended purpose the land holds strategic value to Council as part of the Water Filtration Plant.”
Council will now place the proposed closures of these sections of road on public exhibition from Friday 24th August 2018 until Friday 21st September 2018 as well as notify all adjoining landowners inviting them to make public submissions.
