Rezoning of Land Update - 26 Lake Paddock Drive and 98 Acacia Avenue East

Progress on the rezoning applications at 26 Lake Paddock Drive and 98 Acacia Avenue East (Golf Course) was tabled for discussion at Council’s October Ordinary meeting.

In September 2018 Council resolved to rezone Lot 49 in DP 1114977, 26 Lake Paddock Drive, Leeton, from Public Recreation RE1 to Low Density Residential R2.

This provided Council with an opportunity to sell the land as a residential lot, with the proceeds from the sale to be allocated to the development of a new recreational area adjacent to this site.

Council prepared a planning proposal for the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment who has advised that further justification and information regarding the proposed rezoning was  required  including  information on  housing  and  growth  targets, addressing property restrictions and further information on compliance with new SEPPs.

At the meeting, Council also noted the advice received from the Department regarding the rezoning of Lot 742 in DP 751745, 98 Acacia Avenue East, Leeton, from Public Recreation RE1 to Public Recreation RE2.

This land is the site of the previous Leeton Golf Club Clubhouse building which was demolished several years ago.

The proposed RE2 Private Recreation zone allows the provision of open space for recreation purposes for both public and private use. The list of permitted uses includes tourist and visitor accommodation and registered clubs, which is consistent with the original Council resolution in September 2018 to provide for these land uses.

Council approved the amendment of the original planning proposal to rezone Lot 742 in DP 751745 from RE1 to RE2.

Council will now proceed with the development of a planning proposal for 98 Acacia Avenue East. Subject to a gateway determination by the Minister, Council will then publicly exhibit the planning proposal for a minimum of 28 days. Further information will be available from Council once a determination is made by the Minister.
