Progress report provided on Wamoon Sewerage Scheme Project

Leeton Shire Council noted the progress of the Wamoon Sewerage Scheme Project at its June Ordinary Council Meeting.  

In 2016 Council was successful in obtaining Restart NSW grant funding of $1.5 Million to deliver reticulated sewerage services to the Village of Wamoon, with council matching that investment using funds from the Sewer Reserve Fund. The total project estimate was $3 million.

Manager Water and Waste Greg Richards stated in his report to Council that the project is still progressing through the Design and Approval Stages.

“The timeframe for delivery has been pushed out by 12 months with the new targeted completion date of the project set down for 30 June 2019. The delays in obtaining the relevant approvals are due to the decision to relocate the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) site to a more appropriate site that is further away from residents.”

Some key elements of the project completed since the last update provided to Council in May 2017 include:

• Sewerage plan has been completed including minor changes requested by Murrumbidgee Irrigation in regard to minimising canal crossings, survey plans showing layout of pipeline routes including the proposed location of sewers with respect to property boundaries has been finalised, Longitudinal sections of all sewers showing depth of sewers, manholes, rising main have been completed.

• Survey and geotechnical investigation of the proposed STP site completed. The site is low-lying and stormwater investigations showed that the site is subject to inundation even during minor storms. Several options have been considered and the preferred option is now being investigated in detail.

• Location of the proposed pumping station and concept lay-out finalised.

• Written consent obtained from Crown Lands for construction of a pumping station on the site adjacent to the Wamoon Park has been obtained.

Tender documents will be publicly advertised over the next 2-3 months with the tender to be awarded thereafter.
