Leeton Shire Library is celebrating its new collection of graphic novels with a special online launch event featuring special guest, Queenie Chan.
The new Graphic Novel Collection features over 300 titles and includes contemporary and classic titles.
The collection includes a range of graphic novels, including popular Marvel titles such as Captain America, and Spiderman; as well as manga titles such as InuYasha, Naruto, and Death Note. Other best-selling titles include Riverdale, Stranger Things and The Umbrella Academy.
“Graphic novels are an exciting form of storytelling,” said Terry O’Keefe, Manager of Leeton Library.
“They are important tools for cognitive learning and are rich in visual literacy.
“Through the use of graphical elements such as panels, frames, and speech/thought balloons, readers become actively engaged in the characters and story construction,” added Terry O’Keefe.
The online launch event will be held via Zoom on Wednesday 7 October at 2.30pm. The event will feature Queenie Chan, who will talk about her experiences as an author, creator, collaborator and fan. The talk will also feature librarian recommendations, a short overview of the new collection, and Q&A time.
Queenie Chan is a manga-style comic book artist who lives and works in Sydney and has published locally and internationally.
Her debut work was 'The Dreaming', a mystery-horror series for LA-based manga publisher TOKYOPOP, which has since been translated into multiple languages.
Queenie then collaborated on several graphic novels with best-selling author Dean Koontz for his ‘Odd Thomas’ series, as well as with Australian author Kylie Chan for ‘Small Shen’.
Since then, she has worked on several anthologies, and completed a fairytale inspired fantasy series called 'Fabled Kingdom'. Queenie is a frequent comic guest at conventions such as OzComicCon and Supanova.
Bookings are essential for this free Zoom event and can be made directly with Leeton Shire Library over the phone or in person during opening hours.
