Hi Everyone,
Along with the General Manager and other councillors, I attended the naming of the Leeton SES Headquarters to honour the memory of Peter "Bud" Morris. It was great to see Bud’s family members there and on behalf of the community I would like to extend my gratitude for the service that he gave to our community over many years.
Earlier this month I attended the public consultation session (450 gl) additional criteria for on-farm efficiency measures. This meeting held in Griffith was well attended with most commenting that a further take of 450gl from the system would have devastating effects on our region.
Along with other councillors and staff, I attended the McCaughey Park Splash Pad Opening. I would like to pass on my thanks to Frances Porter for her efforts in gaining support for this much needed facility for our beautiful park in Yanco. I have no doubt that the children and families of Leeton Shire and region will appreciate and enjoy this great addition to McCaughey Park.
I attended the Leeton Country Music Roundup where I was encouraged to sing the first verse of "I’d Love to Have a Beer with Duncan" much to the delight (or disappointment) of the crowd. I thank the organising committee who once again attracted people from far and wide to this event.
The Multicultural NSW Regional Advisory Council held their meeting at the Roxy Theatre where we showcased stories of refugees and migrants that are now living a life with greater freedom in Leeton. The Multicultural NSW Council were very praising of our community and the support that is offered to migrants and refugees settling in our community. I would like to thank Member for Farrer The Hon. Sussan Ley for attending and listening to refugees in our community who have had long delays in the processing of their citizenship applications. She will be following up in gathering relevant information.
I also attended the book launch for the "Leeton Lads of the First World War" along with The Hon. Sussan Ley, Member for Farrer. Hundreds of hours of research went into compiling this detailed publication and I would like to sincerely thank Wendy Senti and her hardworking committee for their efforts they went to in compiling this book.
Again, Leeton were entertained by many bands and musicians from Leeton and afar at the Leeton Town Band Outback Spectacular. I sincerely thank Ruth Tait, Steve Hill and the committee for the hard work that they put in each year to organising this great event for our community. We are thankful for those bands that travel quite some distance to come and entertain people in our community.
Take care and best wishes until my December Update.
Kind Regards, Mayor Paul Maytom
