Hi Everyone,
To start off the month I attended the Fivebough and Tuckerbil Wetlands Advisory Committee meeting. With so many people visiting the area there is general agreement that a public toilet is becoming a necessity. Crown Lands (who own Fivebough Wetlands) and Council will begin to consider ways in which this can be addressed.
I attended the Country Mayors Meeting along with the General Manager. This forum is a great opportunity for networking with other Councils and to connect with State Government Ministers to give them greater awareness of projects that are a priority for our Council. I was particularly impressed with the Assistant NSW Police Commissioner Gary Worboy’s presentation in relation to the new police structures that are being implemented across the state which ultimately will ensure that we have safer regional communities.
One of the highlights of the month for my wife Julie and I was to attend the 100th birthday of Marjorie McCormack at the Historic Hydro. Marjorie has contributed so much to our community and Leeton is a better place for having such a passionate advocate in promoting what a great community we all live in.
I attended the Regional Development Australia Riverina (RDA Riverina) Committee Meeting where Council was invited to give a presentation outlining our strengths and diversity from an industry and community perspective. It was a great opportunity to showcase Leeton, its potential and identify ways in which RDA Riverina can help us to get our funding applications across the line.
My wife Julie and I along with Deputy Mayor George Weston and his wife Carol had the pleasure of attending another very successful Leeton Bidgee Classic event. To see such a diverse range of people from as far away as Western Australia attend this popular community event is a testament to the hard work of the organising committee. Special thanks to Darrell and Carol Collins, Lessees of Gogeldrie Weir Holiday Park, for ensuring the facilities were in first class condition.
I had the pleasure of attending the blessing and opening of the new boarding facilities at St Francis College. Council is fortunate to have a facility of this calibre that caters for boarding and day students.
Members of the community and myself attended a presentation in relation to the new Leeton Solar Farm on Fivebough Road. Photon Energy is about to commence constructing a 30 MWp solar farm which will deliver renewable electricity for the region. This ultimately will reduce pressure on overall electricity pricing.
Julie and I also attended the SunRice Pro Am Sponsors Dinner. This event brings golf professionals from far and wide. All in attendance were grateful for Council’s support and the Golf Course volunteers in the presentation of the course for this annual event.
Happy Easter and best wishes until my April Update. Kind Regards, Mayor Paul Maytom
