Leeton Shire Council has received praise from the Wamoon community for the outstanding work it has done to complete the Wamoon Playground renovations.
The total project cost of the upgrade works was $64,000 with $20,000 coming via grant funding from the Federal Government’s Stronger Communities Program.
Manager Open Space and Recreation Josh Clyne said it was a pleasure for his team to be able to deliver a wonderful new playground for the Wamoon community.
“I have noticed already how many kids are using it every afternoon as we have progressively opened the playground. Council’s Open Space and Recreation Team members have done a wonderful job building the playground and are pleased they could play a significant role in giving the kids of Wamoon an exciting place to play and interact with each other. I’m sure the BBQ facilities will be well utilised by the community as well for special occasions.”
Wamoon community spokesperson Elizabeth Bates said that the park looks fantastic and all the children are loving the new equipment.
“The transformation of Wamoon Park has brightened the area up significantly. It is loved by all and I have had many children come up to me and say how good it is and have had parents say it’s the best thing that has happened for the Wamoon community in years. I would like to thank all involved at Council for their support, hard and tireless work to make the renovations possible.”
Mayor Paul Maytom added that this project has been a long time in the making for Wamoon residents.
“Council is delighted with the many positive comments it has received from Wamoon residents and the wider Leeton Shire community regarding this project. It has been wonderful as Mayor of our Shire to see the great joy and community pride that has been shown in such a short space of time from Wamoon residents as a result of the new playground equipment inclusions.”
Council is also now getting very close to commencing Stage 2 of the Leeton Shire Playground Strategy which will see a new playground developed at Waipukarau Park in the 2018/19 financial year.
An onsite meeting will be held with residents in the Waipukarau Park neighbourhood to discuss possible inclusions over the coming weeks with a date still to be confirmed
and residents notified appropriately.
