Leeton Council is currently formulating a 20 year vision for land use planning for the Leeton Shire. This plan will be known as the Leeton Local Strategic Statement (LSPS).
The Leeton LSPS will be a community driven plan that describes who Leeton is and how we want to use land use planning to maintain our economy, environment and communities by identifying what is important to us, how we can achieve it and how we are going to manage growth into the future.
To achieve this vision Council has identified that the following priorities are important to Leeton: agriculture, employment, tourism, retail, housing, community, environment and Aboriginal Cultural and European Heritage.
For each one of these priority areas Council has proposed a number of short, medium and long term land use planning actions that will establish community acceptable development standards to help achieve the 20 year vision.
To ensure that these proposed land use actions meet community expectations Council is undertaking widespread consultation with community, business and industry to test and finalise the proposed priorities and actions.
The next meeting will now be held at the Southern Cotton Gin on 18 March 2020 at 8am and will discuss how planning rules can help to ensure the future of agriculture in the Leeton Shire.
