Member for Murray Austin Evans today said businesspeople in the Leeton and Murrumbidgee Shires can now set up a café, restaurant or small bar in less than 90 days, with the local Council ‘going live’ with the NSW Government’s Easy to do Business program.
Mr Evans said the decision by the two Shire Councils to join the program paves the way for the emergence of a new foodie industry and café culture in the local area, which can now be established in a red-tape free zone.
“Starting up a hospitality business used to mean completing up to 48 forms, talking to 13 government agencies, and waiting up to 18 months.
“With Easy to do Business, local entrepreneurs can now complete one online form, call one phone number and open a café, restaurant or small bar in 90 days or less.
“New cafés, restaurants and small bars create jobs, and foster a lively night time culture - I’m delighted Leeton and Murrumbidgee Shire Councils has gone live with this great program,” he said.
Councillor Paul Maytom, Mayor of Leeton Shire Council, said the Easy to do Business Program is a great win for prospective business owners wanting to open up a café, bar or restaurant in the Leeton Shire.
“This new program provides a single digital platform and information service that makes it easier and quicker for these small businesses to start up and grow,” Cr Maytom said.
“The Program aims to improve business support, reduce duplication, streamline processes and fast track approval services through a single digital platform and business concierge service.
“This is a very exciting initiative that we are very proud to be launching today together with Service NSW for the Leeton Shire.”
Murrumbidgee Council Mayor, Ruth McRae, said the Easy To Do Business initiative is one of those great connections that will give the new Murrumbidgee Council impetus and credibility.
“Though small in size we find ourselves at the coal face of a myriad of business and industry opportunities,” she said.
“What better time than now to encourage collaborative growth. With support and mentoring, we see this as real support and warmly embrace the initiative.”
Deputy Premier and Minister for Small Business John Barilaro congratulated Leeton Shire Council for getting on board with the Easy to Do Business program.
“As a former small business owner, I know how important it is to do everything we can to make it easier for businesses to start up, operate and employ people and Easy to Do Business is a fantastic opportunity for local entrepreneurs,” he said
