Council resolved to formally name the Leeton Pool the ‘Leeton Regional Aquatic Centre,’ at its December Ordinary Meeting.
The community was recently invited to provide feedback on a
name
for the redeveloped pool.
Name options that were presented
to the community for consideration included Leeton
Memorial Swimming Pool, Leeton Regional Aquatic Centre, Leeton Regional Swimming
Centre, Leeton Regional Swimming Pool, Leeton Swimming Pool and Leeton Olympic
Pool.
The community was also provided an option to offer an alternative name to the ones put forward by Council if desired.
Leeton’s pool is a facility
of regional significance and is a key contributor to the local
economy. The incorporation of the
words “Leeton” and “Regional” reflect the pool’s location and its regional significance.
Leeton Regional Aquatic Centre has been the working title for the redevelopment
project and was overall the most preferred
name voted by the community.
Council’s Communications Coordinator, Mrs Monica Armanini, thanked the public for providing their feedback to Council.
“We received a
total of 53 formal submissions through formal feedback channels and we’d
like to thank the public for their great suggestions and constructive feedback,” said Mrs. Armanini.
The Leeton Regional Aquatic Centre is on track for completion in late January 2021. More details on the opening date will be provided early in the New Year.
