Locals experiencing hardship or self-isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic are being encouraged to reach out to local group Leeton Connect to access support.
Leeton Connect was formed in 2019 to connect the community in several ways including networking, participation, upskilling, capacity building, collaboration and inclusion.
Due to the current COVID-19 crisis, Leeton Connect identified the need for a project to support people in need or in self-isolation during the pandemic, particularly those who are elderly, disabled and/or immunocompromised.
“The project Leeton Connects with Kindness aims to respond where possible, to the needs of vulnerable people in the community who would ordinarily have their needs met in some way or by some organisation that is now impacted by the restrictions placed on them or their service provider at this time,” said committee member and Councillor Tony Reneker.
“This community-led initiative provides a safe platform where people can ask for support and where help services can be offered. It is also a platform where valuable information resources are shared and connections made.
“Leeton Connect is not intended to be a front-line social service, but a body coordinating and connecting people, companies, agencies, service providers and volunteers in order to solve problems or close gaps that have arisen due to the pandemic,” said Councillor Reneker.
Leeton Connect will shortly be distributing a form and flyer to residents with more information about the community kindness initiative.
“If you are in need of support or can provide assistance to others in any way, please complete the form provided and Leeton Connect will organise collection if required,” said Leeton Connect Acting Chairperson Sue Gavel.
