Leeton Shire Council adopted the March Quarterly Budget review, including variations, at its May Ordinary Council meeting.
Council’s Director of Corporate and Community Craig Bennett stated that the projected Consolidated Operating result before capital amounts has improved from a deficit of $1,235,352 at 31 December 2017 to a deficit of $1,100,061 at 31 March 2018, an improvement of $135,291.
The only reason Council is facing a deficit is because the Federal Government chose to provide its 2017/18 Financial Assistance Grant in June 2017 so it had to be accounted for in the 2016/17 financial year.
The major operational variations for the third quarter are detailed below:
Reduction of $59,276 to expected income from the Community Transport Program that is no longer being run by Council.
Increase in contributions of $605,000 and expenses of $466,000 for works carried out on Main Road 80.
There were also some variations to the Capital Budget during the March 2018 Quarter.
Some of the major capital variations included:
$270,000 deferral for the budgeted grant funding for the construction of the Whitton Transfer Station. This item has been included in the 2018/2019 budget for deliberation.
Removal of the Roller Derby Facility project ($90,000) from the 2017/18 budget due to the lack of grant funding of $80,000.
$150,000 to be spent on the extra works required on Palm Avenue (Woolworth’s section) due to geotechnical issues.
Council also noted the progress in relation to Council’s Delivery Program (2017-2021) and 2017/18 Operational Plan for the quarter ending 31 March 2018.
