DRAFT Strategic Stormwater Management Plan on public exhibition

Leeton Shire Council endorsed its DRAFT Strategic Stormwater Management Plan to go on public exhibition from Friday 27^th July until Friday 24^th August 2018.

Council’s Development and Drainage Engineer Matthew Vogele stated in his report to Council that all Councils are required to have a current Strategic Stormwater Management Plan (SSMP) for urban areas to continue levying a Stormwater Management Service Charge (SMSC).

“Since 2006 Council has levied a nominal Stormwater Management Service Charge of $25 per annum for an average residential property. This charge raises crucial funds which in conjunction with Council’s capital funding delivers vital stormwater projects in the urban area.”

“The SMSC allows Council to provide a higher level of service which is important in Leeton with our relatively flat landscape. In order for Council to levy the stormwater management service charge a Strategic Stormwater Management Plan is required to show what the funds are to be used for and it forms part of the key documentation that sets the future direction for Council stormwater projects.”

Stormwater management projects adopted for completion in the 2018/19 Financial Year include Waipukarau Park low flow drainage system, Whitton Township drainage modelling, design upgrade options for Almond Road trunk drain, design of major trunk drains in the urban area, construction of road crossings in the Wamoon township and inspection of older existing stormwater network. Mayor Cr Paul Maytom also successfully moved an additional project, being the completion of stormwater piping in Petersham Road, between Corbie Hill and Lillypilly Roads.

The DRAFT Plan on exhibition can be downloaded from Council’s website http://www.leeton.nsw.gov.au/ while hardcopies will be available for viewing at the Council Administration Office, Leeton Shire Library, Yanco Shop, Murrami
and Whitton Post Offices.

The community is encouraged to provide feedback to Council on the DRAFT Strategic Stormwater Management Plan via the following methods:

• Electronically by completing the consultation we have compiled on our “Have Your Say Leeton” community engagement website http://haveyoursay.leeton.nsw.gov.au/ or;
• In writing addressed to the General Manager by post or emailed to council@leeton.nsw.gov.au

The DRAFT Strategic Stormwater Management Plan will be on public exhibition until Friday 24th August with submissions from the general public accepted up until 5pm on Friday 7th September.
