DRAFT Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS) goes on public exhibition

Leeton Shire Council’s DRAFT Local Strategic Planning Statement will go on public exhibition from Monday 3 February until Friday 20 March 2020.

Council planning staff have now completed the scoping stage in preparation for the public consultation stage, with the assistance of staff from NSW Planning, Industry and Environment. The draft LSPS contains 8 Priority areas covering Agriculture, Employment, Tourism, Retail, Housing, Community, Environment and Heritage and Aboriginal Cultural Heritage and a total of 35 proposed land use planning actions that could be implemented over a short, medium or long term to achieve the desired outcomes.

Council’s Manager Planning, Building and Health Garry Stoll stated in his report to Council that all Councils in NSW are required to prepare a Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS) by 1 July 2020.

“The intent of the LSPS is to set out Council’s 20-year land use vision, the shared community values to be maintained and enhanced, how growth and change will be managed and the special characteristics which contribute to the local identity.”

“The LSPS is to include the relevant land use planning actions identified in the Riverina Murray Regional Plan and Council’s Community Strategic Plan (CSP) in order to shape development controls through the Leeton Local Environmental Plan and the proposed Development Control Plan.”

“The LSPS differs from the CSP by focusing only on land use actions and not the long-term approach to social, environmental and economic impacts that are addressed in the CSP.”

The draft Leeton Local Strategic Planning Statement Community Participation Plan can be downloaded from Council’s website http://www.leeton.nsw.gov.au/ from next Monday 3 February while hardcopies will be available for viewing at the Council Administration Office, Leeton Shire Library, Yanco Shop, Murrami and Whitton Post Offices from Monday 3 February 2020.

The consultation process will include the likes of:

• Face-to-face consultation sessions whereby Council will be inviting representatives from key industry groups, businesses and the community.

• Public meetings for Leeton, Whitton and Yanco

• Electronic survey via the “Have Your Say Leeton” community engagement website http://haveyoursay.leeton.nsw.gov.au/
