Planning for the construction of a new amenities and grandstand building at the Leeton Showground is currently underway.
At its May Ordinary Council Meeting, Leeton Shire Council endorsed the payment of development application fees totalling $20,099.25 to go on public exhibition for 28 days for the Leeton Showground Trust with respect to the redevelopment of the facility.
Council’s Manager Open Space and Recreation Josh Clyne stated in his report that Leeton Shire Council has been working collaboratively with the Leeton Showground Trust to seek funding for the construction of a new amenities and grandstand building at the Leeton Showground, estimated to cost $1.4 million.
“Council has assisted the Trust with several grant applications and also submitted a funding application for $800,000 to contribute towards the project under the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund.”
Mayor Paul Maytom said that the Leeton Showground is an important community facility utilised by many different user groups.
“This
project is long overdue for this popular sporting precinct in Leeton Shire.
Doing what we can to get the project off the ground is an investment in both
current and future generations.”
If no public submissions are received the development application fees will be considered formally waived at the end of the public exhibition period.
The public exhibition period for the development application fees will be announced and communicated by Council early next week.
