Leeton Shire Council endorsed the development of a bore to provide a reliable supply of potable water at Gogeldrie Weir Caravan Park at its January Ordinary Council meeting.
Manager Water and Waste Greg Richards stated in his report to Council that formed campgrounds are required by law to provide patrons with potable water.
“Current supply arrangements at Gogeldrie Weir Caravan Park are less than adequate and need to be resolved. Since early December 2017 potable water has been trucked from Leeton on an as needs basis which is currently costing council approximately $1,250 per week.
The development of the bore, including the requirement to purchase a groundwater extraction licence from the NSW Office of Water, brings the total project cost to $35,000.
Council also endorsed in principle essential upgrades to the residence at Gogeldrie Weir Caravan Park at an estimated cost of $40,000. Funding for these works will be considered as part of the December 2017 Quarterly Budget Review which will be tabled at the February 2018 Ordinary Council Meeting.
Mayor Cr Paul Maytom said that the Gogeldrie Weir precinct is a valued campground and natural attraction for locals and visitors alike to enjoy.
“The Gogeldrie Weir precinct has good potential for further development in the future to become a first class regional visitor experience in the heart of the Western Riverina region. Making sure the basics are sound, like potable water and a decent residence for the managers makes good sense.”
