Leeton Shire Council agreed to support the requests of the Leeton Harness Racing Club and MIA Cruisers Inc at it’s August Ordinary Council Meeting.
Council’s Manager Communications and Marketing Brent Lawrence stated in his report to Council that the Leeton Harness Racing Club has for many years requested and received sponsorship for their annual racing season.
“Upon sending their sponsorship package to Council, the Leeton Harness Racing Club offered their sincere thanks to Council for its generous support over many years. They further reiterated that sporting clubs and organisations in the town would not survive without the backing of the business houses of Leeton and support where possible from Council.”
Council has taken up the Silver Sponsorship Package valued at $550 for 2019/20 Leeton Harness Club racing season.
Council also endorsed at it’s August Ordinary Meeting to waive the Section 68 approval fee of $70 and the charge of 10c per square metre of parking space totaling $969 for use of 510m of the Leeton Town Ovals Complex for the MIA Cruisers Inc “Show and Shine” event taking place during the 2020 Leeton SunRice Festival.
The event will be held on the morning of Leeton SunRice Festival Easter Saturday 2020. This will also give cars associated with the “Show and Shine” event wanting to partake in the SunRice Festival Parade time to proceed along Palm Avenue to line the main street in preparation for the commencement of the Leeton SunRice Festival Parade.
Councillor Tony Ciccia said that is always a great thing for Council to support community organisations that are contributing to running new events and activities within the community.
Leeton Shire Mayor Paul Maytom agreed that the Leeton Harness Racing Club has long been a hardworking organisation in our community and the MIA Cruisers Inc is a relatively new group that is continually growing interest in their activities.
“Council is always open to reviewing requests and proposals for support for both new and existing events and activities happening in our community. All requests that provide detail on the benefits to the town are dealt with in an open and transparent manner.”23-25 Chelmsford Place
