Leeton Shire Council gave its full support to the idea of a Joint Visitor Guide and Destination Marketing project to be undertaken in collaboration with Narrandera, Murrumbidgee and Lockhart Shire Councils.
Council’s Manager Communications and Marketing Brent Lawrence stated in his report to Council that this project came to fruition after Leeton, Narrandera, Murrumbidgee and Lockhart Shire Councils met to discuss the potential of creating different Tourism Trails to encourage people to travel around our region. A Joint Visitor Guide became the obvious next step.
“It has become increasingly apparent that visitors no longer see Shire borders. They see a region and look for what they can do within that region.”
“The goal of this project is to work together for regional promotion, increasing the visitor dollar and overnight stays in the Riverina region. A big focus for regional communities such as Leeton, Narrandera, Murrumbidgee and Lockhart Shire Councils is improving regional dispersal of visitors throughout our respective Shires and getting them to stay longer.”
“The emergence of public art such as Silo and Water Tower Art and our own Lyrics, Landscapes and Lintels Public Art Trail has seen the recent launch of the Riverina Outdoor Art Trail. Add to that the Altina Wildlife Park, the Whitton Malthouse development and our many vineyards, and we have the very exciting makings of an attractive route of tourism product that will increase visitors to this region.”
This collaborative destination marketing project will include the creation of a brand for our region, undertaking shared promotion for a greater reach and greater budget for direct marketing initiatives, as well as the development of two different visitor guides. One will be an online version giving businesses the chance to participate/have a listing and the other a hardcopy version (small print run) which focuses on the key experiences, attractions and different trails to follow.
Each participating Council will be seeking advertising revenue from local and regional operators in early 2020. It is anticipated that the project will be officially launched in July 2020.
