At its October Ordinary Council Meeting, Leeton Shire Council noted the report from 1 July 2018 to 30 June 2019 for the Leeton Golf Course.
Manager Finance Jackie Hawkins stated that as per the resolution of the 2017 December Ordinary Council Meeting, it was resolved that staff would provide Council with a report on the activities of the Leeton Golf Course on a six-monthly basis. Being the second half yearly report for the 2018/2019 Financial Year, it also covered the full financial year from 1 July 2018 to 30 June 2019.
“The number of Golf Club Members has risen slightly from the numbers at 31 December 2018, but they are still below the member numbers for the same period last financial year. The slight drop in member numbers, plus the drop in green fee income impacted on total income. Also, incorporated in the previous year’s income was $10,000 fundraising income from the Golf Committee. As a result there was a drop in income between 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 of $27,248.”
There was a reduction in the rounds of golf played during the 1 July 2018 to 30 June 2019 period when compared to last year. The main contributing factor to the decrease has been unfavourable weather conditions. A cold windy winter, when two Saturday competitions were affected by bad weather, and a very hot Christmas period with the heat continuing into January, normally a busy period, resulted in a loss in Social Rounds played. The weather also cost the Golf Course a lot of visitor rounds of golf. The increase in competition rounds played is a great achievement.
Further advertising is now being undertaken to encourage public awareness and let them know the many options of membership available to them, including special pricing for new members.
