Leeton Shire Councillors re-elected Cr Paul Maytom and Cr George Weston as Leeton Shire’s Mayor and Deputy Mayor for the next year (from September 2020 to September 2021) at its September Ordinary Meeting.
September 2020 was supposed to be local government election month, however, due to COVID-19, the Council term was extended by the NSW Government through to September 2021.
Cr Paul Maytom was elected unopposed and Cr George Weston won an ordinary ballot over Cr Tony Reneker.
This is the 16th year of his 34 years on Council that Cr Paul Maytom will be serving as Mayor and this is the 14th year that Cr George Weston will be serving as the Deputy Mayor.
Mayor Paul Maytom said he is honoured to serve another 12 months on Council as Mayor and that he remains 100% committed to the role.
“I would like to thank the councillors for once again putting their confidence in me to serve as the Mayor of Leeton Shire Council for the next year,” said Mayor Maytom.
“I also thank the General Manager and Council staff for their support.
“It is a pleasure to lead a Council of this caliber – Leeton is extremely well recognized for delivering great and positive outcomes for our community”.
Deputy Mayor Cr George Weston acknowledged Cr Reneker and thanked fellow councillors for their support, saying he was honoured and grateful to be once again elected as Deputy Mayor.
“I would like to thank Councillors for their faith in me and I look forward to serving the Leeton Shire community as Deputy Mayor for the next 12 months,” said Cr Weston.
Mayor Maytom congratulated Cr Weston on being re-elected as Deputy Mayor.
“Cr Weston brings a wealth of knowledge and experience built over the years and I look forward to working with him and other fellow Councillors to deliver the best outcomes we can for our community,” Mayor Maytom said.
Mayor Maytom also thanked Councillor Tony Reneker for his interest in serving as Council’s Deputy Mayor and for his tremendous input and dedication to Council.
Mayor Maytom said the next twelve months will also be focused on building the future capacity of Council and ensuring a smooth transition when he retires in September 2021.
“I offer every Councillor my support and guidance as we move into another big year and pathway into the next election,” said Mayor Maytom.
The next council election is due to be held in September 2021.
