Leeton Shire Council endorsed the Roxy Redevelopment Working Group Terms of Reference at its January Ordinary Council meeting.
Manager Library, Culture and Community Penny Davies stated in her report to Council that the Working Group will be a sub-committee of the Roxy Community Theatre Advisory Committee.
“Once established, the Roxy Redevelopment Working Group will take a lead role in securing funding for identified works through gathering community support and funding commitment to undertake actions recommended in the Roxy Scoping Study which was completed last year.”
It’s purpose is:
Provide expert perspectives on strategy, project methodology, procurement and engagement;
Consider strategic and technical matters and issues that arise during project;
Recommend actions and changes required; and
Provide other advice as required by the Roxy Community Theatre Advisory Committee and General Manager of Council.
“These works are timely for this iconic community asset and will commence in the upcoming weeks. Council hopes that by securing this grant it is the start of many successful funding applications in the future to reposition this important facility that is enjoyed by so many residents in our community.”
Council has already allocated a total of $210,000 over three years as leverage funding for grants and for detailed design.
Members who will serve (voluntarily) on the new Roxy Redevelopment Working Group include: Katherine Armstrong (Chair), Cr Michael Kidd (Councillor/Chair Roxy Community Theatre Advisory Committee), Cr Tracey Morris (Councillor), Cr Tony Reneker (Councillor), Penny Davies (Council Project Leader), Clay Pasquetti (Roxy Theatre Manager) and two community members.
Meetings
will be scheduled as required and it is expected the working
group will meet at a minimum on a bi-monthly basis.
The Working Group’s role is to make
recommendations to Council via the Roxy Theatre Advisory Committee. They are
not delegated to make decisions.
Mayor Cr Paul Maytom said that since the
scoping study was adopted by Council in June last year, the document has since
been used to support funding applications with $169,843 being secured through
the Liquor and Gaming NSW Arts and Culture Infrastructure Grants Program.
“This grant will allow Council to paint the
façade and the entry, supper room and office area, upgraded stage lighting,
hearing augmentation, installation of thermal fire detection and certified fire
safe stage curtains and back drop.”
