Council endorses Splash Pad at McCaughey Park

Leeton Shire Council has endorsed the design for a new Splash Pad to be constructed at McCaughey Park in Yanco at its December Ordinary Council meeting.

Earlier this year a petition was received by Council from the Yanco community asking Council to assist with identifying options for a basic water feature to provide relief for children during the hotter months of the year.

At its September Ordinary Council meeting, Leeton Shire Council approved the investigation and presentation of further detailed designs and costings for the proposed Splash Pad.  

Council’s Manager Open Space and Recreation Josh Clyne said in his report to Council that operational costs will be negligible and incorporated into the general maintenance program for McCaughey Park.

“Following a review of various playground equipment suppliers, Council engaged Australian owned company PlayRope, who supply Vortex Splash Pad componentry, to prepare the detailed design and costings for the Splash Pad. The different equipment that forms part of the Splash Pad design caters for a wide age range, will be operated using a timer to conserve water use and has disability access incorporated into the design.”

“The Splash Pad area will also be fenced and there is adequate water supply and pressure available.
No additional water infrastructure is required.”

A working budget of $65,000 was authorised by Council with community contributions from groups in Yanco forthcoming to support the Splash Pad project. This could potentially reduce the net costs of the project to Council significantly.

Mayor Paul Maytom said that the addition of this new facility has great potential for greater usage of McCaughey Park.

“Council is pleased to be able to respond to the community’s request for a water feature in Yanco for all of the children of Leeton Shire to enjoy during the warmer months. McCaughey Park is an ideal location as it is already a popular destination for both locals and visitors.”
