Leeton Shire Council has endorsed a lot layout for continued detailed planning and design of a residential subdivision on Council owned land in Conapaira Street, Whitton.
Council prepared the draft plan in response to a community engagement workshop held last year during the development of the Leeton Shire Community Strategic Plan. Whitton ratepayers and residents advocated strongly for opportunities to revitalise Whitton, including opening up further sections for houses to be built.
The designs for the subdivision were presented to the Whitton Town Improvement Committee at their meeting in September and unanimously endorsed.
Whitton Town Improvement Committee Chair Tracy Catlin said that Whitton is a well placed spot between Leeton, Darlington Point and Griffith for people to consider living, especially young families.
“Whitton has an excellent school, great pool and enthusiastic community who all want to see the township reinvigorated. It is conveniently located for people to live especially where one parent works in one town and the other in another. I’m confident the lots will be snapped up quickly when they go to market.”
Mayor Paul Maytom said that this development has the potential to be a major influence on the enhancement and reinvigoration of Whitton.
“The residential subdivision offers an excellent opportunity to address part of our housing gap. Being affordable will, I am sure, attract workers and young families to consider making Whitton their home.”
