Council endorses reappointment of Mayor as Chair of MDA Region 9

Leeton Shire Council formally endorsed Mayor Paul Maytom as Chairman of the Murray Darling Association (MDA) Region 9.

Mayor Maytom was reelected as Chairman of Region 9 at the AGM of Murray Darling Association Region 9 held on Tuesday 12^th December.

The MDA has long been the go-to organisation for State and Federal Government agencies seeking input from local government and local communities on issues affecting the Murray Darling Basin.

There are 12 regions in the MDA and Leeton is a member of Region 9. The regions are considered vital platforms for drawing on local knowledge and experience when engaging with government departments, specialist commissions or authorities like the Murray Darling Basin Authority.

“It’s important that we as members of Region 9 play a pivotal role in the Murray Darling Basin Plan to ensure the sustainability of our communities well into the future.” said Mayor Maytom.

Mayor Maytom and Deputy Mayor Cr George Weston are Council’s delegates to the Murray Darling Association (MDA) Region 9.
