Leeton Shire Council is collaborating with the NSW Department of Education to create student
learning resources from its Leeton Regional Aquatic Centre Redevelopment Project.
The collaboration is part of the NSW Department of Education’s STEM Industry School Partnerships
Program (SISP) that partners with Australian companies, universities, government agencies and
industry to deliver world class STEM education and learning programs, building the capability and
competence of teachers and students to ensure Australia’s future workforce needs can be met.
Council’s Manager Open Space and Recreation Josh Clyne said that Council is delighted to
work together with the NSW Department of Education to provide access to a major project that
will contribute to student learning and the development of future generations.
“The $5 million redevelopment of the Leeton Regional Aquatic Centre is one of Council’s major
construction projects and is being used as a case study to showcase how the various facets of
engineering are applied in the real world,” said Mr Clyne.
“Council is honored to become part of the STEM Industry School Partnerships Program (SISP). We
are very proud to showcase this grand project and provide a valuable learning experience for
local students and students across NSW,” added Mr Clyne.
The student learning resources will include the production of video interviews with the local teams
leading the project. These interviews are being developed by experienced engineering studies
teacher, Ian Preston, who is also the SISP Program Riverina STEM Project Officer (SPO) and SISP
Virtual STEM Academy Manager (VSAM).
Mr Preston thanked Council for participating in the STEM Industry School Partnerships Program
and for providing access to a major project to assist student learning.
“Student resources will be uploaded to the iTeachSTEM website which is in development and due
for launch later this year. These materials will be an excellent resource for students studying Civil
Structures, Engineering Studies and other STEM disciplines,” said Mr Preston.
Mr Clyne thanked Council’s design consultants Facility Design Group and Council’s head building
contractors Omnistruct who have also embraced the opportunity to contribute and facilitate this
important learning opportunity for students.
