Leeton Shire Council resolved to adopt the Leeton Local Strategic Planning Statement at
its June Ordinary Meeting.
All Councils in NSW are required to prepare a Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS)
by 1 July 2020.
The intent of the LSPS is to set out Council’s 20-year land use vision, the shared community
values to be maintained and enhanced, how growth and change will be managed and
the special characteristics which contribute to the community local identity.
Council’s Director Operations Peter Keane said the LSPS is a community driven document
that provides the framework for updating important planning documents such as the
Local Environment Plan with Council undertaking an extensive public consultation process
on the draft plan over the past several months.
This included sessions with representatives from key industry groups, businesses and the
community, pop-up information sessions and public meetings across the Shire.
Mr Keane said that Council has completed its final 28-day period of community
consultation.
“A few submissions were received by Council in the final round of consultation and, as a
result, minor amendments were made to the final draft document for Council’s
deliberation. Council has considered all the feedback provided over time and we would like to thank
everyone who provided valuable input on this important planning tool."
"Council officers will now lodge the LSPS with the NSW Department of Planning, Industry
and Environment,” said Mr Keane.
Local Strategic Planning Statements are required to be reviewed by Council at least once
every seven years.
The LSPS will be available on Council’s website www.leeton.nsw.gov.au pending approval
by the NSW government.
