Leeton Shire Council approved two applications for Leeton Community Care Development Inc- Leeton Cannery House and Riverina Riding Club Inc as part of Round One of the Community Strengthening Grant Scheme for the 2018/19 financial year.
In August 2018 Council adopted the revised Donations, Assistance, Sponsorships and Grants Policy which included improved processes for receipt and assessment of requests for assistance.
The recipients approved for funding were: Leeton Community Care Development Inc- Leeton Cannery Tea House ($1,796 towards assisting in establishing a community kitchen at the Leeton Community Op Shop by purchasing appliances) and Riverina Riding Club Inc ($1,000 towards show jumping work equitation equipment).
Cr Tracey Morris said that the three Leeton Shire Councillors who reviewed the applications reflected on the pleasure this task provided them.
“Council is delighted to be able to provide financial assistance incentives such as the Community Strengthening Grant Scheme. These worthy organisations play a major role in the wellbeing of our community bringing people together to enjoy and celebrate what is great about Leeton life. They are integral to the success of Leeton Shire.”
There is $15,000 available in the community grants budget for the 2018/2019 Financial Year. There will be $12,204 left to allocate as part of Round 2 of the Community Strengthening Grants Scheme with funding applications to open on Friday 1 March 2019.
