At its monthly meeting held on Wednesday 22nd November, Leeton Shire Council approved seven applications as part of Round One of the Community Strengthening Grant Scheme for the 2017/18 financial year.
Eight applications totalling $24,806.08 were received for financial support and relief for fee charges with $7,500 awarded to seven applicants. The community grants budget for the 2017/18 financial year is $15,000 with half ($7,500) awarded for Round 1 and the other half budgeted for Round 2 applications which will open in mid-March next year.
Council’s Manager Library, Culture and Community Penny Davies commented on the extremely high standard of the applications.
“Each applicant is to be commended on the level of detail that they provided with their application in the hope of giving their group the best possible opportunity to capitalise on this generous funding opportunity offered by Council,” she said.
Cr Tracey Morris reflected on the pleasure this this task provided her and her fellow Councillors.
“Council is delighted to be able to provide financial assistance incentives such as the Community Strengthening Grant Scheme. These worthy organisations play a major role in the wellbeing of our community bringing people together to enjoy and celebrate what is great about Leeton life. They are integral to the success of Leeton Shire.” she said.
The recipients approved for funding were: Leeton Amateur Swimming Club ($1000 towards purchasing new equipment), Leeton Harness Racing Club ($1000 towards fireworks display at annual MIA Breeders Plate Carnival), Leeton Aboriginal Education Consultative Group ($810 towards fee waiver of Leeton Roxy Community Theatre for Proud and Deadly Awards), Leeton Girl Guides ($1290 towards upgrading air conditioning at the Leeton Girl Guide Hall), Leeton Water Ski Club ($1000 towards rebuilding the amenities block at Ski Beach), Light Up Leeton Committee ($1,500 towards installation of permanent lighting on community tree) and the Leeton Art Society ($900 towards running costs of Penny Paniz Arts Acquisitive Competition and Exhibition).
