Calling for Nominations for Youth Council

Community - Lets Make Music Day

Leeton Shire Council is forming a Youth Council and is calling on interested youth aged 14-18 to nominate to be a part of the committee.

A Youth Council is an advisory committee to Council, providing a voice for young people in Leeton Shire about issues that are important to them.

Cr Sandra Nardi has been a driving force behind the initiative.

“When Councillors are making decisions, it is important to know what young people think on different issues.

“A Youth Council provides Council with a platform to hear their ideas and opinions and helps us to make informed decisions,” Cr Nardi said.

Mayor Tony Reneker is also delighted about the establishment of a Youth Council and hopes it will give local young people insight into how Council makes decisions and inspire them to become community leaders.

“Young people are our future leaders,” he said.

“Joining Leeton’s inaugural Youth Council is a great opportunity to experience and be a part of key decision making in our community.”

If you’re a resident of Leeton and passionate about having your voice heard or know a young person who does, visit https://www.leeton.nsw.gov.au/Your-Council/About-Council/Leeton-Shire-Youth-Council to learn more and nominate.

Nominations close on Friday 26 August 2022.
