Leeton Shire Council endorsed the closure and subsequent sale of the unnamed road adjacent to CopRice at its February Council meeting.
During 2016 Council received a request from Ricegrowers Ltd expressing interest in purchasing this parcel of road reserve to improve safety of road and pedestrian traffic on their work site.
Director of Engineering and Technical Services Barry Heins said in his report to Council that at the time of the initial request, the unnamed road also serviced two properties not owned by Ricegrowers Ltd however since this time Ricegrowers has purchased these properties.
“The road only services properties owned by Ricegrowers as well as heavy vehicles entering Ricegrowers and has no cul-de-sac head or turnaround area at the end. By closing the road responsibility for activities on the road would no longer be a Council issue.”
Due to the lead time of the closure process by NSW Crown Lands, Council also authorised the lease of this land to Ricegrowers Ltd prior to closure.
The lease of the land to Ricegrowers Ltd is now required to be advertised for a period of 28 days and written notification to be sent to all utility providers of the intention to lease.
