At its February Council meeting Leeton Shire Council formally adopted new fees for the Leeton Golf Course effective immediately with the aim of increasing membership numbers and participation rates at the Golf Course.
Leeton Shire Council resolved at the December Ordinary Council Meeting held on 14th December last year to place the proposed new fees on public exhibition prior to putting them forward to Council for adoption.
Council’s Director of Corporate Services Duncan McWhirter said that the fee proposal was advertised in The Irrigator and placed on Council’s Have Your Say Leeton community engagement website for 28 days for public comment.
“A total of six submissions were received during the public exhibition period. All submissions were discussed with the representatives of the Golf Course.”
“The general feedback received indicated that the new fees are sensible, fair and are a way to convert the twilight golfers to full time members.”
“The new fees are aimed at attracting new members so they don’t actually cost the course any income but if successful in attracting new members will add additional income to the course.”
One submission received also focused on whether there would be any potential incentives for existing members who pay their membership year after year.
Director of Corporate Services Duncan McWhirter stated in his report to Council that the Golf Club Committee is considering recommending to Council in the 2018/19 Financial Year an incentive that if any existing member introduces a new member to the course (who joins as a member) the existing member gets an incentive payment for the signing up of the new member. This will be discussed further at a later date.
