Leeton Shire Council noted the 2016/17 year-end report for the operation of the Leeton Golf Course at its July Ordinary Council meeting.
The report provided Council with a year-end summary for the period 1 July 2016 to 30 June 2017.
Council’s Director Corporate and Community Craig Bennett explained in his report to Council that Council budgeted a loss of $150,000 in the 2016/17 financial year from operating the Leeton Golf Course however the actual loss recorded on operating the Leeton Golf Course in the 2016/17 financial year was $97,047. This is much lower than the loss of $143,583 from the 2015/16 financial year.
“This result represents a saving of $52,953 to Council and the ratepayers of Leeton Shire Council which is a pleasing result. Volunteer hours from the dedicated volunteers of the Leeton Golf Course also remain constant at approximately 40 hours per week which is excellent commitment from those passionate about the daily operation and future of the Leeton Golf Course.”
Mayor Cr Paul Maytom further added that the Leeton Golf Course Sub Committee are to be commended for their forward thinking into further investigating and implementing continued operational improvements at the Golf Course.
“The Leeton Golf Course is a wonderful asset for our community. Not many country towns boast a golf course right in the middle of town that is so well supported by its members.”
At its March Ordinary Council Meeting, Leeton Shire Council agreed to extend the management and responsibility for the operation of the Leeton Golf Course for a further four year period from 1 July 2017 to 30 June 2021.
