About Cr Paul Smith
Paul Smith is a first term Councillor of Leeton Shire Council.
Cr Smith made the big move to Leeton in 2002 after growing up in the small country town of Matong where his family owned and operated the Matong General Store and Post Office from 1986 up until 2000.
Working at a local Hardware store in Narrandera it was here where Paul got involved in the irrigation industry working for a private contractor before taking up a role with Irrigation Specialists in 2004. During his time with Irrigation Specialists he completed studies in irrigation design and technology, office administration as well as numerous Certified Davey and Grundfos Pump Technician courses.
In 2011, at the breaking of the drought, Paul felt that it was time for a change out of the irrigation industry and took up a position with Yenda Producers in the Leeton Branch. Here he has been given responsibilities of logistics and plant operations of various equipment.
Cr Smith has always had an interest in Local Government and knew that the time was right for our shire to have a representative from the younger generation.
Paul considers himself to be a good listener and strong leader that is not afraid to make decisions or bring different perspectives to debated topics. He is actively involved in various community organisations including the Leeton Volunteer Rescue Association (Rescue Squad) of which he has been the President for the past four years. He also holds the role of Secretary of the 2017 Leeton Bidgee Classic Fishing Competition Organising Committee.
One major priority area for this term of Council in Paul’s opinion is to ensure the elected body pays particular attention to the Murray Darling Basin Plan in order to strengthen our agricultural industry and to maintain a strong employment increase for our Shire.
